Green Champion

ドイツ連邦環境省とドイツオリンピックスポーツ連盟（DOSB）は、10月16日、手引書「グリーンチャンピオン」を発行した。この手引書は、競技会の開 催者やスポーツ団体、スポンサーを対象にしたもので、スポーツ施設の建設・改修・拡張時、競技会実施計画時、競技会の実施時、実施後における環境対策につ いて、情報がまとめられている。エコ研究所とケルンスポーツ大学によって作成された。
2005年、ドイツ国内では、154件のスポーツ競技会が開催され、1日あたり1万人以上の観客、そして5000人以上の参加者が集まった。この数字には、世界選手権やヨーロッパ選手権が含まれているが、サッカーのブンデスリーグやユーロリーグなどは含まれていない。
　この154件の競技会によって、約30万トンの温室効果ガス、3000トンの廃棄物が排出された。また、1600万kWhの電力、800万kWh相当の熱、9万トンの水が消費された。
　ガブリエル環境大臣は、スポーツイベントは毎年数百万人の人を熱狂させるが、環境にもかなりの影響を及ぼしていると指摘し、スポーツイベントの企画に当たって、環境配慮をしっかり組み込む必要性があるとコメントした。【ドイツ連邦環境省】

世界トイレサミット

31日から4日間、インドのニューデリー（New Delhi）で「第7回世界トイレサミット（World Toilet Summit）」 が開かれる。同サミットで発表予定のインドの環境専門家は、トイレを普及させることによって、病気のまん延を止めることができるだけでなく、人の排出物を 捨てに行くという嫌な仕事から下層カーストの人々を解放できると、貧困にあえぐ国民のためにトイレ整備の推進に尽力している。
